2–3 jours suffisent pour voir la Ville fortifiée (Patrimoine UNESCO), la promenade de la mer Caspienne, la Tour de la Vierge, le Palais des Shirvanshah, les modernes Tours de Flamme et le quartier d'Icheri Sheher.
Mars–mai et septembre–novembre offrent des températures agréables (15–25°C). L'été (juin–août) peut être très chaud. L'hiver est doux comparé aux autres villes de la région.
