Bakü genel olarak turistler için oldukça güvenli bir şehirdir. Suç oranı düşük olup yerliler ziyaretçilere karşı samimi ve misafirperverdirler. İç Şehir ve ana turistik alanlar iyi aydınlatılmış ve güvenlik altındadır. Kalabalık pazarlarda eşyalarınıza dikkat etmeniz ve geceleri ıssız sokaklardan kaçınmanız yeterlidir.
Çoğu uyruk için varıştan önce e-Vize (evisa.gov.az) ya da Heydar Aliyev Havalimanı'nda kapıda vize alınabilmektedir. Standart turist vizesi 30 günlük konaklama hakkı tanır. Türkiye, Rusya, Gürcistan ve bazı diğer ülkelerin vatandaşları vizesiz girebilmektedir — pasaportunuz için resmi portalı kontrol edin.
Yerel para birimi Azerbaycan Manatı'dır (₼). Şehir merkezi ve İç Şehir'deki otel, restoran ve büyük mağazaların büyük çoğunluğunda kart kabul edilmektedir. Ancak küçük yerel çay evleri, pazarlar ve taksiler genellikle nakit tercih eder. Günlük harcamalar için yanınızda manat bulundurmanız önerilir.

Bakü Metrosu ucuz (₼0.40/seyahat) olup şehir merkezini iyi kapsar; Kırmızı ve Yeşil hatlar başlıca turistik alanları birbirine bağlar. Bolt ve yerel taksiler kısa mesafeler için uygun fiyatlı ve güvenilirdir. İç Şehir ve Bulvar yürüyerek keşfetmek için en iyisidir. Gobustan veya Atəşgah'a günlük geziler için araç kiralamak da bir seçenektir.
