Hong Kong est extrêmement sûre pour les touristes. Elle affiche l'un des taux de criminalité les plus bas au monde. Vous pouvez vous promener seul la nuit en toute tranquillité, utiliser les transports en commun sans inquiétude et laisser des objets sans surveillance dans les cafés (chose inhabituelle dans d'autres villes asiatiques).
3–4 jours suffisent pour explorer : le Pic Victoria, la promenade de Tsim Sha Tsui avec le spectacle de lumières, Mong Kok, le marché nocturne, le quartier de Wan Chai, le tramway historique et une excursion sur l'île de Lantau avec le Bouddha Tian Tan.
Octobre–décembre offre le meilleur climat : frais, sec et peu humide (18–25°C). Janvier–mars est également agréable. Évitez juin–septembre (saison des typhons), la chaleur et l'humidité étant extrêmes tout l'été.
Le MTR (métro) est le plus efficace, propre et ponctuel d'Asie. La carte Octopus facilite le paiement dans le métro, le bus, le ferry et les magasins. Les ferries du Star Ferry entre Hong Kong Island et Kowloon sont emblématiques et très économiques (2 HKD). Les tramways historiques (ding ding) sont aussi une expérience.
Le Pic Victoria au coucher du soleil, la promenade nocturne de Tsim Sha Tsui (Symphony of Lights), le marché nocturne de Temple Street, le quartier de Mong Kok, le ferry Star Ferry, le Bouddha Tian Tan à Lantau et un dim sum authentique sont incontournables.
La plupart des passeports occidentaux permettent de visiter Hong Kong sans visa pendant 90 jours (UE, États-Unis, Royaume-Uni, etc.). Hong Kong a une politique de visas distincte de la Chine continentale. Vérifiez les exigences sur le site du Département de l'immigration de Hong Kong.
