Hong Kong è estremamente sicura per i turisti. Ha uno dei tassi di criminalità più bassi al mondo. Puoi camminare da solo di notte in totale tranquillità, usare i trasporti pubblici senza preoccupazioni e lasciare oggetti incustoditi nelle caffetterie (cosa insolita in altre città asiatiche).
3–4 giorni sono sufficienti per esplorare: il Peak di Victoria, il lungomare di Tsim Sha Tsui con lo spettacolo di luci, Mong Kok, il mercato notturno, il quartiere di Wan Chai, il tram storico e una gita all'isola di Lantau con il Buddha Tian Tan.
Ottobre–dicembre offre il clima migliore: fresco, secco e poco umido (18–25°C). Gennaio–marzo è anch'esso piacevole. Evita giugno–settembre (stagione dei tifoni), calore e umidità sono estremi per tutta l'estate.
La MTR (metropolitana) è la più efficiente, pulita e puntuale d'Asia. L'Octopus Card facilita il pagamento su metro, autobus, traghetto e negozi. I traghetti dello Star Ferry tra Hong Kong Island e Kowloon sono iconici e molto economici (2 HKD). I tram storici (ding ding) sono anch'essi un'esperienza.
Il Peak di Victoria al tramonto, il lungomare notturno di Tsim Sha Tsui (Symphony of Lights), il mercato notturno di Temple Street, il quartiere di Mong Kok, il traghetto Star Ferry, il Buddha Tian Tan a Lantau e un autentico dim sum sono imperdibili.
La maggior parte dei passaporti occidentali permette di visitare Hong Kong senza visto per 90 giorni (UE, USA, Regno Unito, ecc.). Hong Kong ha una politica sui visti separata dalla Cina continentale. Verifica i requisiti sul sito del Dipartimento dell'Immigrazione di Hong Kong.
