Hong Kong es extremadamente segura para los turistas. Tiene uno de los índices de criminalidad más bajos del mundo. Puedes caminar solo de noche con total tranquilidad, usar el transporte público sin preocupaciones y dejar objetos sin vigilancia en cafeterías (algo inusual en otras ciudades asiáticas).
3–4 días son suficientes para explorar: el Peak de Victoria, el paseo de Tsim Sha Tsui con el espectáculo de luces, Mong Kok, el mercado nocturno, el barrio de Wan Chai, el tranvía histórico y una excursión a la isla de Lantau con el Buda Tian Tan.
Octubre–diciembre ofrece el mejor clima: fresco, seco y con poca humedad (18–25°C). Enero–marzo también es agradable. Evita junio–septiembre (temporada de tifones) aunque el calor y la humedad son extremos todo el verano.
El MTR (metro) es el más eficiente, limpio y puntual de Asia. El Octopus Card facilita el pago en metro, autobús, ferri y tiendas. Los ferris del Star Ferry entre Hong Kong Island y Kowloon son icónicos y muy económicos (2 HKD). Los tranvías históricos (ding ding) también son una experiencia.
El Peak de Victoria al atardecer, el paseo nocturno de Tsim Sha Tsui (Symphony of Lights), el mercado nocturno de Temple Street, el barrio de Mong Kok, el ferri Star Ferry, el Buda Tian Tan en Lantau y dim sum auténtico son imprescindibles.
La mayoría de los pasaportes occidentales permiten visitar Hong Kong sin visado por 90 días (UE, EEUU, Reino Unido, etc.). Hong Kong tiene una política de visados separada de China continental. Verifica los requisitos en la web del Departamento de Inmigración de Hong Kong.
