La Costa Amalfitana es muy segura para los turistas. Es una región tranquila del sur de Italia con criminalidad muy baja. Las carreteras de montaña son estrechas y sinuosas, así que conduce con precaución si alquilas un coche.
3–4 días son ideales: un día en Amalfi, uno en Ravello, otro en Positano y tiempo para explorar los senderos de montaña (como el Sendero de los Dioses) y bañarse en las calas del Mediterráneo.
Mayo–junio y septiembre–octubre son perfectos: clima cálido, aguas cristalinas y mucho menos aglomeración que en julio–agosto. El verano es la temporada alta más concurrida. El invierno es tranquilo pero algunos negocios cierran.
Los ferris y hidrofoils son la manera más cómoda de moverse entre Amalfi, Positano, Salerno y Nápoles. Los autobuses SITA recorren la carretera costera pero pueden ser muy lentos por el tráfico. Evita alquilar coche en temporada alta.
La Catedral de Amalfi, el jardín de Villa Cimbrone en Ravello, la panorámica Positano, el Sendero de los Dioses (trekking con vistas espectaculares), las playas de Furore y Marina di Praia y el limoncello local son imprescindibles.
La Costa Amalfitana es uno de los destinos más caros de Italia, especialmente Positano y los hoteles con vistas al mar. Sin embargo, los pueblos más pequeños como Minori, Maiori o Furore son mucho más asequibles y auténticos.
