April to June and September to October bring warm, comfortable weather and fewer crowds. July and August are very hot, while spring offers blooming citrus and lively festivals.
3 days cover the historic centre, street markets, and main monuments. Add 1–2 days for Monreale, Mondello beach, or a Cefalù day trip.
Palermo is generally safe for visitors. Watch your belongings in crowded markets and on buses, and stick to well-lit streets at night. Most travelers visit without any problems.
Street food is the star — arancine, panelle, sfincione, and pani ca' meusa (spleen sandwich). Don't miss cannoli and granita with brioche for dessert.
Take bus 389 from Piazza Indipendenza — it takes about 35 minutes and costs around €1.40. The hilltop cathedral's golden mosaics are worth the trip.
