Riga es generalmente segura para los turistas. El casco antiguo, el barrio de Art Nouveau y las principales atracciones son seguros durante el día. Como en cualquier capital, presta atención a tus pertenencias en zonas concurridas y evita callejones poco iluminados por la noche.
2–3 días son ideales para explorar la Ciudad Vieja (Patrimonio UNESCO), el espectacular barrio de Art Nouveau (el más concentrado de Europa), el Mercado Central en antiguos hangares de zepelines y el parque Bastejkalns.
Junio–agosto ofrecen clima agradable y días larguísimos (hasta 17 horas de luz). El invierno es frío pero pintoresco con mercados navideños. La primavera y el otoño son tranquilos y muy agradables con menos turistas.
Los tranvías, autobuses y tróleibs son eficientes y baratos. La Ciudad Vieja y el barrio Art Nouveau son perfectos para caminar (solo 15 minutos de distancia). Desde la estación central hay trenes a Tallin, Vilna y otras ciudades bálticas.
La Ciudad Vieja medieval (Vecriga), el barrio de Art Nouveau con sus fachadas ornamentadas, el Mercado Central de Riga (el mayor de Europa del Norte), la Catedral del Domo, la torre de la Iglesia de San Pedro y el Museo Nacional de Historia son imprescindibles.
Riga es muy asequible para los estándares europeos. Los restaurantes, alojamiento, transporte y actividades culturales son considerablemente más baratos que en Europa occidental. Es uno de los mejores destinos de relación calidad-precio del Báltico.
