Phuket es generalmente segura para los turistas. Las playas de Patong, Kata, Karon y las zonas turísticas son seguras. Ten precaución con las motos de alquiler (principal causa de accidentes), las corrientes marinas en algunas playas (banderas rojas), los carteristas en mercados y las estafas de taxis.

Noviembre–abril es la temporada seca ideal con mar tranquilo, cielos despejados y temperaturas de 28–33°C. Evita mayo–octubre (monzones del suroeste) cuando las lluvias son frecuentes y algunas playas tienen banderas rojas. Las islas Similan cierran de mayo a octubre.
Alquilar una moto (con experiencia y casco) o un coche es la manera más flexible. Los taxis y Grab (la app local) son caros pero cómodos. Los songthaews (camionetas compartidas) son muy económicos entre playas. Muchos alojamientos ofrecen traslados.
Las playas de Kata Noi y Karon, una excursión a las islas Phi Phi, la Bahía de Phang Nga (cuevas de mar y isla de James Bond), el Big Buddha, el Phuket Town histórico, el mercado nocturno de Patong y los baños de elefantes éticos son imprescindibles.
