Osaka es extremadamente segura para los turistas. Japón tiene uno de los índices de criminalidad más bajos del mundo. Puedes caminar solo de noche sin preocupaciones. El único inconveniente menor es que algunos carteles no están en inglés.
2–3 días son suficientes para explorar Osaka: el Castillo de Osaka, el barrio de Dotonbori, Shinsekai, el Parque Universal Studios Japan y la escena gastronómica que ha hecho famosa a la ciudad.
Marzo–abril (época de los cerezos) y octubre–noviembre (otoño con hojas de colores) son las épocas más populares y espectaculares. El verano es muy caluroso y húmedo. El invierno es frío pero con menos turistas.
El metro de Osaka es eficiente y llega a todos los puntos de interés. La tarjeta Suica o ICOCA te facilita el pago. Desde Osaka puedes llegar en tren a Kioto en 15 minutos y a Nara en 45 minutos.
Dotonbori (el corazón gastronómico), el Castillo de Osaka, el barrio de Shinsekai, el mercado de Kuromon, el Acuario Kaiyukan y, si tienes tiempo, los templos de la cercana Kioto.
Osaka es conocida como la 'cocina de Japón'. No puedes irte sin probar el takoyaki (bolas de pulpo), el okonomiyaki (tortilla japonesa), el kushikatsu (brochetas fritas) y el ramen de la casa en el barrio de Dotonbori.
