Osaka est extrêmement sûre pour les touristes. Le Japon affiche l'un des taux de criminalité les plus bas au monde. Vous pouvez vous promener seul la nuit sans inquiétude. Le seul inconvénient mineur est que certains panneaux ne sont pas en anglais.
2–3 jours suffisent pour explorer Osaka : le château d'Osaka, le quartier de Dotonbori, Shinsekai, Universal Studios Japan et la scène gastronomique qui a rendu la ville célèbre.
Mars–avril (saison des cerisiers) et octobre–novembre (automne coloré) sont les périodes les plus populaires et spectaculaires. L'été est très chaud et humide. L'hiver est froid mais moins fréquenté.
Le métro d'Osaka est efficace et dessert tous les points d'intérêt. La carte Suica ou ICOCA facilite les paiements. Depuis Osaka, vous pouvez atteindre Kyoto en train en 15 minutes et Nara en 45 minutes.
Dotonbori (le cœur gastronomique), le château d'Osaka, le quartier de Shinsekai, le marché Kuromon, l'aquarium Kaiyukan et, si vous avez le temps, les temples de la proche Kyoto.
Osaka est connue comme la 'cuisine du Japon'. Ne partez pas sans goûter le takoyaki (boulettes de pieuvre), l'okonomiyaki (omelette japonaise), le kushikatsu (brochettes frites) et le ramen maison dans le quartier de Dotonbori.
