April–June and September–October offer mild temperatures (18–25°C), fewer crowds and beautiful colours. July–August is hot (35°C+) and busy. December is cold but magical with Christmas markets.
Tbilisi is one of Europe's safest capitals. Petty crime is rare, locals are extremely hospitable, and solo travellers — including women — generally feel very comfortable. Normal city caution applies at night.
Very affordable. A hearty Georgian meal with wine costs $5–12. A mid-range hotel room runs $30–60/night. A pint of local beer is around $1.50. You can live well on $40–60/day total.
Georgia offers 365-day visa-free access to citizens of over 90 countries including EU, UK, USA, Canada and Australia. It is one of the world's most open-door policies.
The metro is cheap (~₾0.50/ride) and covers the main districts. Bolt (ride-hailing) is widely available and very affordable. Taxis from the airport to the centre cost around ₾15–20.
Sulphur baths in Abanotubani, the Narikala Fortress at sunset, khinkali dumplings in the Old Town, amber wine at a natural wine bar, and a day trip to Mtskheta or the Kakheti wine region.
