Stoccolma è una delle città più sicure d'Europa. La criminalità violenta è molto bassa e i turisti possono muoversi in totale tranquillità. Gamla Stan (Città Vecchia), il centro e tutti i musei sono completamente sicuri.
3–4 giorni sono ideali per visitare Gamla Stan, il Museo Vasa, il Museo ABBA, il quartiere di Södermalm, il Palazzo Reale e le escursioni nell'arcipelago di Stoccolma.
Giugno–agosto sono i mesi migliori con giornate molto lunghe (fino a 18 ore di luce), festival e vita all'aperto. La primavera e l'autunno sono anch'essi piacevoli. L'inverno è buio e freddo ma con incantevoli mercatini di Natale.
La metropolitana (Tunnelbana), famosa per le sue stazioni decorate come gallerie d'arte, insieme a tram e autobus copre tutta la città. Il centro storico di Gamla Stan è piccolo e molto gradevole a piedi. I traghetti collegano le isole dell'arcipelago.
