Città del Messico ha zone molto sicure e altre che richiedono prudenza. I quartieri di Polanco, Condesa, Roma e il Centro Histórico sono popolari e relativamente sicuri per i turisti. Usa Uber (più sicuro dei taxi di strada), evita zone sconosciute di notte e custodisci i tuoi oggetti.
4–5 giorni sono il minimo per questa megalopoli: un giorno nel Centro Histórico e lo Zócalo, uno a Xochimilco e Coyoacán, uno a Teotihuacan (piramidi), uno nei quartieri di Polanco e Condesa, e tempo per i mercati e la gastronomia locale.
Ottobre–maggio è il periodo migliore con clima secco e piacevole (15–25°C). La stagione delle piogge (giugno–settembre) porta acquazzoni pomeridiani quotidiani. Dicembre e Pasqua hanno un'atmosfera festiva speciale. L'inquinamento può essere maggiore da novembre a gennaio.
La metropolitana CDMX è economica ed efficiente, anche se molto affollata nelle ore di punta. Uber è l'opzione più sicura e comoda per i turisti (evita i taxi di strada). Le Ecobici (biciclette) sono disponibili a Condesa, Roma e Polanco. I bus turistici coprono le principali attrazioni.
Lo Zócalo e la Cattedrale Metropolitana, il Museo Nazionale di Antropologia, Teotihuacan (le piramidi del Sole e della Luna), il quartiere di Coyoacán con il Museo Frida Kahlo, Xochimilco in trajinera e il mercato de La Merced sono esperienze imperdibili.
Lo street food di Città del Messico è in generale sicuro se scegli bancarelle molto frequentate dai locali (segnale di freschezza e qualità). I tacos al pastor, le tlayudas e gli elotes sono sicuri nella maggior parte delle bancarelle affollate. Bevi acqua in bottiglia ed evita ghiaccio di provenienza dubbia.
