Chiang Mai is considered one of Thailand's safest cities and is extremely popular with solo travellers, especially digital nomads. Traffic can be chaotic but overall it is very relaxed and welcoming.
Budget travellers can live well on ฿500–800/day ($15–25) including guesthouses and street food. Mid-range is ฿1,200–2,000/day. A bowl of khao soi (the city's signature curry noodle) costs around ฿60–80.
